Visakhapatnam: Heart patients are typically elderly, but in recent years, several young people in Andhra Pradesh have passed very suddenly from heart attacks. While some doctors believe that myocarditis and pericarditis caused by COVID-19 may have played a part, this notion has not been supported by a lot of evidence.

From dyspnea and chest pain to severe heart failure, myocarditis can cause a variety of symptoms.  A recent study in the journal "Nature Medicine" found that even a minor instance of the COVID-19 condition can greatly raise the risk of heart disease.

The study emphasized post-acute COVID-19 effects that affected the cardiovascular system as well as pulmonary and extrapulmonary organs. According to several recent studies, the COVID-19 pandemic appears to have confronted humanity with a constellation of symptoms following recovery in addition to the urgent issues of prevention, treatment, and management of a new disease.

According to specialists, SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, can penetrate a number of human cells via attaching to the spike protein, including the endothelial cells in coronary veins, cardiomyocytes (cells responsible for the contraction of the heart), and alveolar cells. Dr. K. Rambabu, director of the Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), stated that there are few questions as to the contribution of SARS-CoV-2 to these heart attacks and fatalities.

Bilateral avascular necrosis in several patients who recovered from the pandemic illness is also documented. He added that despite the dosage of steroids given to the patients during their COVID-19 recovery, these abnormalities continue to manifest. On the other hand, Dr. C. Prabhakar Reddy, a cardiothoracic surgeon, noted that more young and middle-aged adults are experiencing exercise-induced cardiovascular events. Hence, he advised that it is preferable for adults aged 40 and above to have a cardiac check-up before beginning vigorous exercise.
